Zero-emission vehicle registrations surged to 13.3 per cent in Q3 2023: S&P Global

In the third quarter of 2023, the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Canada continued to accelerate, with registrations of battery electric (BEV) and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) vehicles reaching a significant milestone. Data from S&P Global Mobility reveals that one in eight vehicles registered in Canada during this period was either a BEV or a PHEV, accounting for 13.3% of the market share.

This surge in EV registrations represents a notable increase from the previous quarter, where EVs comprised 10.5% of the market share. The 2.7 percentage point jump demonstrates sustained growth and indicates a strong momentum in the adoption of zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs) across the country.

The data underscores the ongoing trend of Canadian consumers embracing EVs at a rapid pace, signaling a robust demand for environmentally friendly transportation options. As EV technology continues to advance and charging infrastructure expands, the upward trajectory of EV sales is expected to persist, further contributing to Canada's transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable transportation sector.
