As Canada undergoes a clean-energy transition, data compiled by CBC News reveals the distribution of fast-charging stations compared to the number of pure-electric vehicles in each province. Federal regulations mandate that by 2035, 100% of new cars and light trucks sold in Canada must be zero-emission vehicles. The analysis shows variations in the availability of fast-charging infrastructure, a crucial component for meeting the ambitious zero-emission target.
The data indicates the number of fast-charging stalls per 100 electric vehicles in select provinces: 1.88 in British Columbia, 2.15 in Quebec, 3.09 in Ontario, and 5.11 in Alberta. Nova Scotia boasts approximately five chargers per 100 vehicles, while Manitoba and Prince Edward Island have ratios of 10.29 and 7.5, respectively. Saskatchewan leads with a ratio of over 22 chargers per 100 electric vehicles, and New Brunswick follows closely with more than 18. The analysis underscores the need for a substantial increase in charging infrastructure to support the nationwide adoption of zero-emission vehicles, a pivotal aspect of Canada's clean-energy goals.
