A recent survey by J.D. Power reveals that many Canadians remain hesitant to embrace electric cars despite advancements in EV technology. The Electric Vehicle Consideration Study indicates a decline in Canadian interest, with 66% of respondents expressing being "very unlikely" or "somewhat unlikely" to consider an electric vehicle for their next purchase. This marks a 13% drop in interest compared to the previous year. Concerns cited by Canadian respondents include limited driving distance per charge (63%), the purchase price of EVs (59%), and a perceived lack of available charging stations (55%). J.D. Ney, Director of Canadian Automotive Practice at J.D. Power, notes that, unlike in the United States, interest in electric cars in Canada is decreasing. Despite potential savings on maintenance and fuel costs, reluctance persists, partly fueled by range anxiety, particularly in colder climates. Advocates emphasize the need for firsthand experiences, as over half of Canadians have never sat in an EV, and research indicates that those who test drive or borrow an EV are more likely to consider purchasing one.
