Tesla plugs public charging gap for Ford with Supercharger access

Tesla and Ford, typically retail rivals, have forged a surprising partnership in the electric vehicle (EV) market. In a groundbreaking move, Tesla has agreed to open its Supercharger network to Ford EV drivers in Canada and the U.S. by spring 2024. Additionally, Ford will integrate Tesla's North American Charging Standard (NACS) port into its upcoming EV models, starting in 2025. However, it remains uncertain if Ford's future vehicles will retain the Combined Charging System (CCS) port. Both companies emphasized the significance of charging accessibility in promoting EV adoption. The collaboration, announced via a Twitter Live discussion by Tesla CEO Elon Musk and Ford CEO Jim Farley, underscores a shift towards cooperation in advancing EV infrastructure, marking a departure from their traditional competitive stance in the automotive industry. This development reflects a broader trend of automakers prioritizing cooperation to address the challenges of EV charging infrastructure and accelerate the transition to electric mobility.
