A new initiative named Agora aims to streamline electric vehicle (EV) charging across Canada by allowing users to charge their vehicles at any public charger using a single account. Launched this week, Agora, which translates to "market" or "open meeting space" in Greek, is led by three founding organizations: ChargeHub, BC Hydro, and The Electric Circuit, along with 12 other industry partners including charging networks and automakers. The primary goal of Agora is to facilitate roaming across EV charging networks through a unified and secure account management platform. By adopting a single platform for managing all charging activities, the initiative aims to enhance the overall charging experience for both industry stakeholders and EV drivers.
Simon Ouellette, CEO of ChargeHub, emphasized the importance of offering the best charging experience for end-users amidst the growing public charging networks. He highlighted Agora's role in fostering collaboration within the industry and scaling up EV roaming capabilities to meet the evolving needs of drivers. Through Agora, stakeholders envision a future where EV drivers have seamless access to charging infrastructure nationwide, regardless of the charging network provider. This initiative represents a significant step towards advancing the accessibility and convenience of EV charging, ultimately supporting the broader goal of accelerating EV adoption across Canada.
