Rural Quebec transit authority gets $1.75M for fully electric buses

In eastern Quebec's Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region, the Régie intermunicipale de transport Gaspésie-Îles-de-la-Madeleine (RÉGÎM) is taking significant steps to reduce emissions by electrifying its public bus fleet. With funding of $1.75 million from the Green Municipal Fund, RÉGÎM plans to procure 21 electric buses, including 10 paratransit shuttles, and install 12 charging stations across the service area. This initiative aims to cover 18 routes spanning from 15 to 105 kilometers in length.

The transition to a fully electric fleet is projected to yield impressive environmental benefits, including a remarkable 98% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, a 72% decrease in energy consumption, and a 64% reduction in energy costs. By embracing electric buses, RÉGÎM is demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and advancing towards a greener future for public transportation in the Gaspésie–Îles-de-la-Madeleine region.
