Ontario funding nearly 100 Indigenous Energy Support Programs across dozens of communities

The Ontario government has allocated an additional $5 million to its Indigenous Energy Support Programs, bringing the total investment for the year to $15 million. These funds will support 93 projects in 58 Indigenous communities across the province. Administered by the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO), these programs aim to foster Indigenous leadership in the electricity sector while enhancing the reliability, affordability, and sustainability of Ontario's grid. Minister of Energy Todd Smith emphasized the government's commitment to providing reliable, affordable, and clean electricity, particularly in Indigenous communities. In 2022, $9.8 million was allocated to 83 projects in 53 Indigenous communities and organizations. Since the program's inception in 2009, the IESO has provided a total of $71 million in funding to 177 Indigenous communities and organizations.
