The author shares a fondness for road trips, stemming from childhood adventures with their family. Recently, armed with a new electric Volkswagen ID.4 boasting a range of over 400 kilometers on a full charge, the author decided to embark on a 15,000-kilometer road trip from Toronto to British Columbia, following the historic Route 66 to California and then up the coast to Vancouver Island. The journey was an opportunity to relocate belongings from B.C. to Ontario, with a focus on experiencing the Americana along the way.

Owning an electric vehicle (EV) brought a new element to trip planning, as the author needed to strategically identify charging stations. With an emphasis on the fastest chargers to minimize refueling time during the day, the author meandered through B.C. and Canada, sharing the challenges and considerations associated with the evolving infrastructure of EV charging. The road trip narrative captures the intersection of nostalgia for traditional road trips and the practicalities of adapting to the needs of an electric vehicle.
