Linamar to supply EV industry from new Ontario gigacasting plant

The city of Welland, located near Niagara Falls, Ontario, is set to become a hub for electric vehicle innovation with the construction of a new facility by Canadian auto parts manufacturer Linamar. Scheduled to open in 2025, this plant will mark a significant milestone as the first North American auto parts supplier-owned and operated gigacasting plant. Gigacasting, a technology popularized by Tesla, involves using massive high-pressure die-cast aluminum alloy molding machines to produce entire segments of EV chassis in a single step. This innovative approach offers several advantages for EV manufacturing, including lighter weight, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency compared to traditional steel-component chassis. Gigacasting aligns with the growing demand for electric vehicles and underscores Welland's emergence as a center for cutting-edge automotive technology in North America.
