Kuntz Electroplating, a third-generation family business in Kitchener, received a $3 million boost from the federal government to support its transition into manufacturing for the electric vehicle (EV) industry. The funds are intended to enable the business, operational since 1948, to modify production lines and acquire new equipment to meet the growing demand for EVs. Filomena Tassi, the minister responsible for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, emphasized that supporting family businesses like Kuntz Electroplating contributes to creating local jobs and developing manufacturing capabilities to support Canada's expanding EV sector. The federal government anticipates that the investment will lead to the creation of 45 new jobs at Kuntz Electroplating, known for specializing in electroplated and powder-coated exterior components for vehicles. The funding is expected to empower the company to handle larger volume orders and move towards more environmentally sustainable solutions in line with the increasing interest in electric vehicles.
