It is realistic’: Infrastructure needed for 2035 EV mandate

Canada's federal government has announced plans to eliminate new vehicles solely powered by gas from the market by 2035 as part of its initiative to reduce emissions nationwide. The proposal has sparked concerns in Alberta regarding the feasibility of this mandate and the province's ability to adapt to a shift towards electric vehicles (EVs).

Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault revealed the plan to phase out gas-powered vehicles on Tuesday, a move that experts argue is not implausible. However, in Alberta, where the economy is heavily dependent on the oil and gas industry, questions arise about the practicality of such a transition. The province's capacity to accommodate the changes needed for widespread adoption of EVs is being scrutinized.

As the federal government aims to align with global efforts to combat climate change, the announcement signals a significant policy shift, prompting debates and discussions about the challenges and opportunities associated with the transition to electric vehicles in different regions of Canada, particularly in provinces like Alberta.
