How far can you go with EVs in Canada? A closer look at range, battery life

Canada's recent mandate requiring all vehicles sold by 2035 to be zero-emission has prompted concerns about the practicality of electric vehicles (EVs) and their range capabilities. However, experts assure consumers that advancements in EV technology have significantly alleviated "range anxiety." Mark Marmer, owner and founder of energy consultant Signature Electric, highlights the remarkable improvement in EV ranges, noting that most cars and trucks now offer a comfortable 300- to 350-kilometre range, a significant upgrade from the 150- to 200-kilometre ranges seen eight to 10 years ago.

Marmer emphasizes the increased convenience for consumers, as the majority of daily commutes fall within the 50 to 100 kilometres range. With the expansion of charging infrastructure and the ability for at-home overnight charging, concerns about EV range limitations have diminished. As the automotive industry shifts towards sustainable practices, the Canadian mandate reflects the changing landscape, offering reassurance to consumers about the practicality and viability of electric vehicles in meeting their daily transportation needs.
