New research from BC Hydro reveals that in British Columbia, 50% of non-electric vehicle (EV) owners are concerned about taking a road trip in an electric vehicle due to uncertainties about the availability of charging stations along their route or at their destination. The survey, which involved 800 respondents in British Columbia, indicates that 23% of non-EV owners are "very likely" to embark on a road trip in a battery-powered EV, while 45% are either "somewhat unlikely" or "not likely" to do so.
In contrast, among the 80 EV owners surveyed, 63% expressed a high likelihood of taking a road trip in their electric vehicles, with only 11% stating they were "somewhat unlikely" or "not likely" to do so. The findings underscore the lingering concerns and perceived barriers among non-EV owners regarding the practicality of electric vehicles for long-distance travel. Addressing these concerns and expanding charging infrastructure could play a pivotal role in encouraging wider adoption of electric vehicles in the region.
