Flex-N-Gate, StoreDot collaborate on fast-charging battery cell technology

Battery developer StoreDot has teamed up with global automotive component manufacturer Flex-N-Gate to advance the commercialization of their "extreme fast charging" (XFC) battery technology in Windsor, Ontario. StoreDot, an Israeli startup, has pioneered the "100in5" battery technology, boasting the ability to recharge an electric vehicle (EV) for 100 miles (or 160 km) of range in just five minutes.

According to StoreDot CEO Doron Myersdorf, the 100in5 technology addresses the primary barrier to EV adoption: range and charging anxiety. The company achieves this by innovating the battery chemistry, replacing traditional lithium-ion battery anode graphite with nano-sized silicon particles. Additionally, StoreDot incorporates proprietary polymer additives and conductive additives, along with leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) technology, to enhance energy density and enable extreme fast charging.

The collaboration with Flex-N-Gate will utilize Flex-N-Gate's Flex-lon lithium-ion cell pilot factory in Windsor to produce samples of the 100in5 battery cells. Initially, these samples will be for testing purposes, known as A-Sample production, to evaluate the battery's performance in EVs. While the batteries produced at this stage may not yet be in their final form factor for vehicle integration, they will provide essential insights for EV testing capabilities.

StoreDot's partnership with Flex-N-Gate signifies a significant step forward in advancing the development and commercialization of fast-charging battery technology for electric vehicles. This collaboration aims to revolutionize the EV industry by offering solutions that address critical challenges and pave the way for widespread adoption of electric transportation.
