Federal Investment to Deliver 56 New EV Chargers across Halifax

The Government of Canada is facilitating the transition to electric vehicles (EVs) by investing $980,000 in the Halifax Regional Municipality to install 46 Level 2 and 10 Level 3 fast chargers, totaling 56 chargers across key locations. This move aligns with the government's commitment to creating a coast-to-coast-to-coast charging network, promoting widespread adoption of EVs. The funding comes from Natural Resources Canada’s Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program, supporting the objectives outlined in Canada’s new Electric Vehicle Availability Standard. The Standard aims to increase the supply of clean, zero-emission vehicles nationwide, working towards a target of 100% of new vehicles being zero-emission by 2035. Switching to EVs is highlighted as a cost-effective and environmentally friendly choice for families, offering financial savings and reducing pollution. The government has already supported the installation of over 43,000 chargers across the country. The investment in Halifax is expected to commence charger installation in spring 2024, contributing to the ease and confidence of EV drivers in the region. Canadians can plan their routes using Natural Resources Canada’s electric charger and alternative fueling stations locator, reinforcing the commitment to sustainable transportation and creating manufacturing jobs in the growing EV sector.
