Expert says Canada doesn't have enough EV charging stations to meet growing demand

Amid Canada's shift towards clean energy and the surging popularity of electric vehicles (EVs), there's a growing apprehension regarding the adequacy of charging infrastructure to accommodate the rising demand. In British Columbia alone, where over 100,000 EVs are registered, this number is projected to skyrocket to more than 635,000 by 2030, as indicated by BC Hydro. However, experts express concerns that the current pace of building charging stations might not keep up with this rapid increase. Brian Kingston, President and CEO of the Canadian Vehicle Manufacturers' Association, highlights charging infrastructure as the top worry surrounding electrification. The insufficiency of charging stations could potentially deter individuals from making the switch from traditional gas-powered vehicles to EVs. This underscores the urgent need for Canada to accelerate the deployment of charging infrastructure to support the growing EV market and facilitate the country's clean energy transition.
