Dalhousie University is spearheading efforts to bolster Canada's expertise in electric vehicle (EV) battery technology with two major initiatives. The first is the creation of the Canadian Battery Innovation Centre (CBIC), a $13.5-million research and development facility focused on prototyping. Led by Michael Metzger, a prominent battery researcher, the CBIC aims to support the burgeoning demand for EV battery expertise in Canada. Concurrently, Dalhousie plans to introduce a new Master of Battery Technology program, set to commence in fall 2025. This graduate program aims to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to address the growing demand for qualified personnel in the EV battery industry. Metzger emphasizes the importance of producing skilled workers for the numerous battery factories emerging in Canada. Through these initiatives, Dalhousie University aims to nurture Canadian talent and meet the increasing demand for expertise in EV battery technology.
