EV Charging Between Canada & The US? Enjoy The New Binational EV Corridor

The United States and Canada have unveiled a collaborative initiative called the Binational Electric Vehicle (EV) Corridor, aimed at ensuring seamless and reliable charging for EV drivers traveling across the border. This joint effort involves harmonizing charging standards and establishing interrelated alternative fuel corridors, backed by significant funding from both countries' governments. The corridor, stretching from Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Québec City, Québec, encompasses key routes including the I-94 highway through Detroit's tunnel to the Canadian border, Highway 401 through Toronto, Highway 20 in Montréal, and Highway 40 through Québec City. The infrastructure will feature EV charging stations installed every 50 miles and will include DC fast chargers with Combined Charging System (CCS) ports. In Canada, there will be 215 stations along highways, strategically located within 6 km of the roadway. Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra emphasized the corridor's importance in facilitating worry-free cross-border travel while contributing to cleaner air and cost savings. U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg highlighted the project's role in enhancing EV affordability and accessibility, underscoring the collaborative efforts to create manufacturing jobs and combat climate change through historic investments in EV infrastructure. This initiative signifies the long-standing partnership between the two countries on transportation issues and reflects their shared commitment to sustainable energy and environmental stewardship.
