Amidst the Canadian federal government's plans to phase out sales of new gas-powered vehicles within the next decade, concerns about electric vehicles' performance in cold weather have emerged. However, enthusiasts Tyler Krause and others, speaking on CBC's Blue Sky, shared positive experiences of driving electric cars during winter. Krause, a member of the Saskatchewan Electric Vehicle Association and founder of the Tesla Owners Club of Saskatchewan, highlighted the rapid heating and enhanced reliability of electric vehicles in winter compared to traditional gas cars. Despite a decrease in driving range during frigid temperatures, from 500 kilometers in summer to around 300 kilometers in winter for his Tesla Model 3, Krause expressed confidence in the available charging infrastructure in the province. The discussion reflects a growing acceptance of electric vehicles in cold climates and the evolving landscape of sustainable transportation in Canada.
