Federal Energy and Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson announced nearly $30 million in funding for the installation of 1,578 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across Quebec. However, data reveals that previous federal infrastructure programs, which funded over 43,000 EV chargers since 2016, have seen fewer than one in five of them become operational. The announcement in Quebec City aligns with the government's goal to build 84,500 chargers by 2029. Hydro-Québec, set to receive the largest portion of the funding, will use $21.7 million to install 1,194 charging stations, including 385 fast-charging stations. France Lampron, head of the Electric Circuit at Hydro-Québec, expressed gratitude for the support from Natural Resources Canada, emphasizing its role in advancing the deployment of charging infrastructure and ensuring accessibility for all EV drivers.
