The Canadian government is set to introduce the Electric Vehicle Availability Standard, a regulation mandating that all new vehicles sold in the country must be zero-emissions by 2035. According to unnamed senior government officials cited by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and the Toronto Star, the regulation aims to phase out the sale of new combustion vehicles. The Electric Vehicle Availability Standard will necessitate that zero-emissions vehicles, encompassing battery electric, hydrogen, and plug-in electric vehicles, constitute 20% of all new car sales in 2026, followed by an increase to 60% in 2030, and reaching 100% by 2035. This move underscores Canada's commitment to accelerating the adoption of cleaner and sustainable transportation methods, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
