B.C. lands $1-billion E-One Moli Energy battery cell plant

E-One Moli Energy, a battery manufacturer, has selected Maple Ridge in British Columbia's Lower Mainland for its new $1.05-billion lithium-ion battery cell manufacturing plant, set to open in 2028. The announcement, made by the federal and B.C. governments, highlights the plant's significance in creating 350 jobs and producing up to 135 million high-performance lithium-cell batteries annually for electric vehicles (EVs).

The decision to establish the plant in Maple Ridge follows previous reports in 2020 indicating E-One Moli's interest in creating the "largest lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility in Canada" in the area. Now, with $204.5 million secured from the federal government, the company will proceed with construction. The funding, part of the Strategic Innovation Fund’s Net Zero Accelerator Initiative, aims to support companies contributing to Canada's emission reduction targets.

The establishment of this manufacturing plant represents a significant step towards advancing Canada's EV industry and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It underscores the government's commitment to supporting innovative projects that align with environmental goals while creating job opportunities in local communities like Maple Ridge.
