Accessibility required: Municipalities pushing to make accessible EV chargers the norm

As electric vehicle (EV) ownership becomes more common, the lack of accessible charging infrastructure is emerging as a significant concern. In municipalities like Gananoque, Ontario, Mayor John Beddows noticed a glaring oversight: the absence of charging stations designed for accessibility. In an interview with Electric Autonomy, Beddows highlighted the lack of wide parking spaces and the positioning of charging stations behind curbs and poles, making it difficult for individuals with mobility aids to access them. This oversight underscores the need for more inclusive planning and design in EV charging station implementation. As EV adoption continues to rise, municipalities are recognizing the importance of ensuring that charging infrastructure is accessible to all members of the community.
