Essay Contest – Terms and Conditions
These terms and conditions govern your participation in the Essay Contest under the Zero Emission Vehicle Awareness Initiative organized by Astro STEM Labs. By participating in the contest, you (the participating contestant) agree to be bound by these terms.
1. Eligibility and Groups:
a. The contest is open to Group 1 - Individuals who are school students in grades 6 to 12 and enrolled in a Canadian school, or any university student in a Canadian university
b. The contest is open to Group 2 - Individuals (adults) who are resident in Canada and engaged as Researchers, Professionals, or simply Electric Vehicle enthusiasts
2. Entry Submission:
a. To enter the contest, participating contestants must register, accept the terms and conditions, and submit an original Essay, in 200 to 750 words, adhering to the specified theme/sub-themes and requirements set by Astro STEM Labs
b. Each participating contestant may submit only one Essay, which must be on the general theme of Electric Vehicles, and shall focus on one or more of the following sub-themes:
i. Why opt for an EV?
ii. EV battery technologies
iii. Electric car and the environment
iv. Divergent technology strategies in EVs
v. Infrastructure and EVs
vi. Sustainable options for EV technologies
c. The Essay must not contain any offensive, defamatory, or unlicensed copyrighted material, and it must not violate any applicable laws or regulations
d. The Essay must be authored solely by the contestant without seeking the assistance of others or the use of artificial intelligence and other automated essay writing assistance
e. High school and university students, Researchers, Professionals and other adult contestants will gain bonus points in the evaluation if you follow an academic style of writing (MLA, APA, or Chicago)
f. By submitting an Essay, you warrant that you are the original creator of the Essay, and you grant Astro STEM Labs a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to upload, reproduce, and distribute your Essay for ZEVAI promotional purposes
3. Guidelines, Judging, and Winners:
a. Your Essay must abide by these guidelines:
i. Essay may contain a title and the contestant’s full name
ii. Essay must not contain any direct or indirect advertising of products or services
iii. Essay must comply with all provincial and federal laws of Canada in respect of restrictions on the invasion of privacy, and restrictions on inappropriateness for public display or sharing in mainstream or social media
iv. Essay must not contain any plagiarized content
b. The winning Essay will be selected by a panel of judges appointed by Astro STEM Labs based on:
i. Communication of purpose
ii. Depth of reading and research on the topic
iii. Writing skills
iv. Technical appeal of the Essay
v. Overall presentation
vi. Persuasiveness of message
c. The judges’ decision will be final and binding
d. Astro STEM Labs reserves the right to withhold the prize and withdraw a participating contestant’s submission if it is determined that the participating contestant has violated these Terms or engaged in any fraudulent or unethical behaviour in connection with the contest
4. Prizes:
a. The prizes will be awarded as stated by Astro STEM Labs and are non-transferable
b. The winners will be notified by email or other contact details provided during the submission process
c. If a winner fails to respond within fourteen (14) days of notification, or if the winner is found to be ineligible or in violation of these Terms, Astro STEM Labs reserves the right to disqualify the winner and select an alternate winner
5. Intellectual Property
a. Astro STEM Labs acknowledges that all intellectual property rights in the Essay submitted remain with the respective participating contestants
b. Astro STEM Labs agree not to reproduce or use any of the winning Essay for commercial purposes without obtaining explicit permission from the respective winner
6. Contest Groups
In the event of insufficient high-quality submissions in each group, the groups or contests will be consolidated.
